8/17/2010: FreshStart Facilitator Workshop - Smoking Cessation Program
Columbus Public Health AuditoriumBecome a Freshstart Facilitator to Help Tobacco Users Quit for Free! Community centers, worksites, school districts and faith based organizations can implement the Freshstart tobacco cessation support program at their organization to help tobacco users quit for FREE! What is Freshstart?Freshstart is a specially designed program to help tobacco users plan a successful quit attempt by providing information, skills for coping with cravings, and group support. How Does Freshstart work?Freshstart is a program that uses the most current guidelines for tobacco cessation support into four one hour face-to-face group support sessions. After completing the program, participants will increase their motivation to quit, learn effective approaches for quitting and guide them in making a successful quit attempt. The components of Freshstart include: · Motivational intervention activities· Practical counseling (problem solving skills)· Social support· Education about medication and approaches to quitting How Can my Organization Implement Freshstart? To implement Freshstart, a representative from your organization (former tobacco user or non tobacco user) must complete the online component of the Freshstart facilitator training. This will take about 1 hour. The representative will receive program materials and will be able to implement Freshstart at their convenience after participating in the online training. Individuals that would like additional guidance regarding implementing Freshstart should attend the Franklin County Fresh Start Facilitator Workshop on August 17th. Experienced Freshstart facilitators will be present to share tips and guidance regarding program implementation. This workshop is highly recommended for new facilitators. Facilitators will also learn how to link tobacco users with free patches and one-on-one counseling through the Ohio Tobacco Quit Line. For more information about the facilitator training, please call Kherry DeLorenzo at 1.888.227.6446 x3104 or emailkherry.delorenzo@cancer.org.
